The new Summer League has started

In the summer of 2021, just as COVID was beginning to ease, Ringwood and Highcliffe arranged to play some friendly matches outdoors at pubs… it was not just pleasant to play outdoors whilst he weather was good but it was safer too!

The idea seems to have caught on as this year there is a mini Summer League, the main idea of which is to provide some not too serious match chess between clubs and a bit of social mixing. Many of the matches will be held at pubs, usually outdoors.

Ringwood played its first match against Poole at the garden of the Fish Inn on 29th June. As one player said, “we took a bit of a thumping”, losing 1.5-5.5 but the event was still good fun. You can read the match report on LMS.

The next match be on 11th July away to Southbourne, weather permitting outside and not too far from the sea!
