Mixed March Results

After “Fabulous February”, March was decidedly mixed, arguably a bit miserable! Out of our 8 matches we scored 2 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first…

In B&DCL Divsion 1 we lost to Poole B. This still leaves us 4 match points ahead of bottom placed Highcliffe but they have a match in hand. Therefore our match against Highcliffe on 3rd April is critical.

In B&DCL Divsion 3 we lost to Wimborne D and Bournemouth B. We had been top of the table and are still clearly in second place with 2 matches to play.

We also lost in the Dorset League Division 2 to Dorchester B. We are in the bottom half of the table but don’t look in any danger of coming bottom.

Moving onto the better news…

In the Southamption League Division 1 we drew with Southampton A. That left us to face Fareham A who are clearly on paper the strongest side in the League. If we had won that one we would have had a good chance of winning the league but, despite having earnt a draw against them in the home match earlier in the season, we went down to them in the away leg. Fareham are therefore champions but we still stand a good chance of coming second.

In the Bacchus League we beat Southbourne. Whilst the taking part really is the main thing in this league, it is nice to win some matches. The idea is that the teams should be evenly matched and this is working out well for us as we have now won 2, drawn 1, and lost 2.

Finally, the B&DCL Handicap KO cup started and in the first round we beat Highcliffe Carlsen. The match score was 3-3 but because of the handicapping system Highcliffe needed to win 4-2 to go through.

With just 9 league matches and however many KO Handicap matches we have to go, the season is nearing its final stages. Let’s hope it is “Astounding April” for us!
